Meet the Assistant Principals
Meet John Michael Schartz, Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at Comanche Middle School. He will be starting his 34th year in the education profession. He was in the classroom/weightroom for 26 years and coached all 33 years. He has been an administrator for 7.
Schartz received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Mary of the Plains and a Masters in Education Administration from Washburn University.
Comanche is one of the first buildings he started teaching in in the early 90’s and looks forward to being an Assistant Principal here.
Meet Ty Thomas, Assistant Principal at Comanche Middle School. Ty grew up here in Dodge City, KS. He attended Sacred Heart Cathedral School from kindergarten through 8th grade and graduated Dodge City High School in 2010.
Ty attended Fort Hays State University where he played baseball while earning Bachelor of Science degrees in Education and Health and Human Performance. He then went on to earn his Master of Science in Education Administration from Emporia State University in 2021.
He loves spending time with his family. His wife Edith is a Kindergarten teacher at Northwest Elementary School. They have two sons Gabriel who will be a Sophomore at DCHS, and Orlando who will be a Freshman at DCHS. They also have a baby due in July.
Professionally, Mr. Thomas has been an assistant principal and athletic director for one year, and a classroom teacher & coach for 9.5 years. When asked about his new position Ty said, “I look forward to working with the incredible families and dedicated staff at Comanche Middle School. I’m passionate about empowering students to recognize their potential and supporting them as they work hard to achieve their goals.”
